I lost Thursday and Friday of last week to a case of food poisoning that came with a cafeteria shepherd’s pie. In my delirium-induced self-pity, I wondered if the whole writing thing was worth the effort. I mean, why bother? None of my friends read a damn thing I write. It was nice to find this in my inbox when I started crawling back to the living. It let me know that I'm not out here all alone.

I enjoyed this. Not sure why. But that’s what I like about it. Keep going. See what happens on the lonely journey.

Yes, I identify. It has taken me years to accept that writing is a lonely but joyous activity, misunderstood by many family members and friends as a hobby, or a strange obsession at my age, when I should be "doing" retirement, like joining them in golf games. My eyes glaze over when balls, their paths, and those who throw them, kick them, or hit them with sticks, are mentioned, except when reading Colm Toíbin’s latest book, that begins: "It all started with my balls...." I am so grateful for writers, including you, Troy Ford.

Buhbinia Poof - hahaha! You are a hilarity to read. I'm sorry your friends aren't on this journey with you. But you will find new friends who will share your love of wording and who will love your words. I have a similar experience. Mostly writer friends appreciate my writing. I heard other writer friends also experiencing this. I have come to accept it and focus only on those who take time to read what I have to say. I'm grateful to be connected with you and to read your wonderful work!
