I came here to comment on your bio line, it made me upset...you know the bit that goes something like "looks once into the abyss so you dont have two"....why am feeling abyssmal? well, mostly because I didnt think of something as absolutely fabulous myself...what a great line and great recommendations above

Hello Simon! Had not heard that bit, but I'm glad it's hitting the spot for you O.o - mainly it was a play on the fact that VVilliam the spokescat only has one eye, poor thing, life in the Alley can be rough. Glad to have you aboard!

Expand full comment

ahh I see. One of my poodles puppers only has one eye, but the crazy thing about Bruce is that even with only one eye he seems to understand and see things much more clearly than his 2 older brothers.

I am glad to be aboard! (even though you are a cat and not a dog person :))

I consider myself a very lucky person to have met you on this here platform, Troy.

You were one of the first--I think THE first--to offer me words of encouragement on here, and it was monumental in me sticking with it.

I think without you the skeptical side of me, and/or the impatient side, may have won... wouldโ€™ve leaned into, well, not being here.

So I have you to thank for so much, my friend. Youโ€™re incredibly kind. Youโ€™re incredibly talented.

Thank you.

Wow, Troy, thank you so much for such a lovely shout out - it really made my day when I read your kind words. It is much appreciated brother.

And thank you for compiling such a wonderful list of writers, I have just started looking through some of the other substacks you recommended and Iโ€™m honoured to have been included in such a group.

Also what you wrote at the beginning about your experience of writing really resonated with me, especially this โ€”

โ€œBut since I have been writing and posting regularly, it has sometimes felt more like running smack into the painted backdrop. THAT has been the more authentic experience of becoming a writerโ€”testing limits, especially my own.โ€ โ€”- I couldnโ€™t agree more.

Thanks again Troy :)

Me to Troy. :)

And by the way, when you said the other day (in which ever post we were chatting on) that you was gonna give me a shout out, I thought you just meant like a shout out on the Substack โ€˜office hours thread thingyโ€™ - I had no idea you was actually preparing a post.

You are too kind sir - and I greatly appreciate it.

Impossibly beautiful and mysterious....a perfect description of Troy Ford and his writings. Also having a husband who is prone to innapropriate fits of laughter I say this resolutely....it was a shining beakon of light that drew me to him like a moth to a flame. Who needs a boring nitwit when you can spend your life floating one one giggling fit to another? Regarding the horribly biased battle of the diva post...all is forgiven!

Beautiful as the dawn, treacherous as the sea, would you say? Stronger than the foundations of the earth? This is why I keep you around - it takes someone impossibly beautiful and mysterious to know one. โญ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’›

Gosh Troy, what a delicious and delightful post. I am charmed by your words, kindness and generosity and I return the notion of not being able to imagine Substack without you, your flair and wit and humour and insight.

I love the depth you've gone into with highlighting various Stacks here. And huzzah, there are ones I hadn't seen before, so this is amazing.

Thank you Nathan! I should have maybe titled it "Reflections and Introductions" - it felt more like an intimate little party where my favorite people on Substack maybe hadn't all met yet. I can see it now: the book-lined parlor, the blazing fire, the little glasses filled with real "spirits." ;) Delighted to have you with us.

Holy merde, what a fine list. Only one person missing - you! ;-) Such kind, loving words to each person on this list. You're a gem of a person and talent, dear Troy. I'm so grateful to have met you and become your friend. You're one of my first friends here. Thank you! Without your encouragement, I may not have continued. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Troy, love, what a trove of talent and what a sincere honour it is to be included in it. Thank you.

I teared up at โ€œMore than that, they have shown me that a community of creatives is possible, when it sometimes seemed real connection was elusive and rare.โ€ I share the sentiment, entirely.

Lots of familiar, and very dear, names on here - and Iโ€™m so looking forward to diving into the unfamiliar ones. Thank you for your generosity. You are such a bright and integral part of my Substack experience (and many others, I know) and I am most grateful to you ๐Ÿ’œ

Thank you my dear, so glad to find myself among such a kind crew, you and David, and all our dear comrades. And thank you for the blurb, by the way, it was you that inspired me to start writing this post, to return the favor, and it turned into a whole thing. โญ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽˆ

Thanks David! It was Chloe who inspired me, actually, she wrote the sweetest blurb for me, and I sat down thinking I would return the favor (and I will) but it turned into a whole post for several people.
